Rome fashion show bars 15 'too skinny' models

Fifteen models were kicked out of a Rome fashion show late Tuesday for being too thin, sparking new debate on anorexia in the fashion industry.

"I asked that girls with abnormal measurements shouldn't work ... (and) had to fire 15 who were under (French) size 36 (US size eight)," Raffaella Curiel told reporters.

"One girl fainted during the trials," he said, adding, "I had to give her a had sandwich."

Curiel said his fashion house wanted to respect rules developed in December to combat anorexia among fashiong models, but added: "It's not our fault if (agencies) send us girls who are too skinny."

Under size 8?? That's not that small...I mean, there's sizes under that which wouldn't be considered 'anorexic'.
it prob. wasn't converted right
36 is more like size 6
Size 6 is still not too small. I think under 3/4 is small...but depending on the person maybe not too small.

yeah true that....some women look perfectly healthy and toned in small sizes....but then u have these starved, sickly lookin models with portruding ribs...yuk !

Yeah I know...it all depends on the person. Ribs sticking out, to me, is too thin.
i mean size 6 on a 6 foot model and she will look skinny, while someone 5 foot tall will look chubby.

you have to take the height into consideration
Definitely, Lena!
Dont they fudge sizes in america to make big women feel smaller?

For example, fat bitch (sorry, big woman size 10) goes into a store and tries a size 8 dress and fits perfect. She feels great and buys it b/c she feels great wearing a size 8 dress.

She still fat, but profit was made.
they do not do that! However, diffrent manufactoreres have diffrent fits- so sometimes one can wear 3 and others can hardly squize in to 5.
Also size 8 , is size 8. I would think someone who weras jeans in European 36 can hardly be a model. Still a good looking healthy women ofcrouse but not a model. I do beleive 36 is right around 8/10 actually. I wear Ameican size 5, and fir in to 29-30 European size. So that seems about a correct conversion.
I do agree that higth makes more weigh allowable, for example Tira Banks is 130-40 lbs, yet she wear size 4-5, while for someone my heigth i would be wearing 8 being size 140. But size stays the size. Women wearing SIZE 8 and being 6'1 just looks bigger then someone 5'4 wearing size 8. So no I don't think heigth makes a possitive diffrence in clothe sizes. Specailly for models, cause while maybe a regular tall women would be forced to buy larger size clothes to accomodate for legs or torso length, model sizes are measured diffrenly , not in reliance to clothes.
Not to mention different manufacturers use different fit models, I might add...
